Frequently asked questions
Last updated June 2026 · Instrument Ninja, a Riverun Pty Ltd product (ABN 65 663 364 154, Australia).
What is Instrument Ninja?
An all-in-one music training platform — ear training, theory drills, fretboard, rhythm, a metronome, tuner, amp sim, a DAW with looper/sampler, and minigames — in your browser. Free to start.
Which instruments does it support?
It's instrument-agnostic for ear training and theory, with dedicated tools for guitar/bass (fretboard, amp/live input, tuner) and MIDI-keyboard training. You can practise with audio input or a connected MIDI device.
Do I need any hardware?
No — just a modern browser. A microphone or audio interface unlocks the tuner/amp/live-input tools, and a MIDI keyboard unlocks MIDI training. Headphones recommended.
Is my audio private?
Yes. Live microphone/instrument audio is processed in your browser (Web Audio) and is never uploaded or stored unless you explicitly save a project. See Security.
Is it really free?
The Free plan gives you the core training games, theory reference, metronome and local tools. Pro adds the full game library, MIDI training, DAW Pro, AI MIDI generation, cloud sync and advanced analytics. EDU adds classroom tools. See Pricing.
Does it work offline?
Yes — it's a PWA you can install to your device, with offline practice mode on paid plans.
Can I use it to teach a class?
Yes — the EDU plan adds a teacher dashboard, class management and progress reports. See Pricing or email schools@instrument.ninja.
How does the AI work?
AI tools help generate MIDI ideas (bass, chords, melody, drums, variations) to spark practice and creativity. They're assistants — you stay in control of the music.
What about my data?
No ads, no third-party trackers, and your practice data is scoped to your account. Export or delete it anytime — see Privacy.
What devices work best?
Desktop/laptop (Chrome or Edge) for the DAW and live-input tools; phones and tablets work for training games and theory. Install it as an app from your browser.
